About the Kay County Detention Center
The Kay County Detention Center serves as the primary regional detention and booking facility for Kay County, Oklahoma. Administered directly by the Kay County Sheriff's Office, the complex processes individuals arrested by county sheriff deputies, local municipal police departments, and state law enforcement troopers operating throughout the Newkirk jurisdiction.
Unlike long-term state correctional institutions, the facility functions as a temporary custody bureau housing both pretrial defendants awaiting court appearances and individuals serving short misdemeanor sentences. Current active intake blotters indicate approximately 25 individuals cataloged within current custody records.
Detainees booked into the Kay County Detention Center remain under the legal jurisdiction of the local magistrate courts until formal judicial release, bail posted by licensed sureties, transfer to a state penitentiary, or acquittal of pending charges.
